AI agents are getting better mainly through the code and scaffolding around them ("harnesses") and by running many agents together, not through new model weights. The risks have moved to the same place: memory that keeps facts after they've been replaced, agent actions that look harmless one at a time but add up to harm, and agents coordinating with each other. Check agent memory for outdated facts and monitor whole sequences of actions, and look at FDA's Model Master File before building a validation package from scratch. openai.com | fda.gov

Self-improving harnesses, a 10,000-agent math claim and a Minecraft run all get their gains from code around a fixed model.

Self-rewriting harnesses are now their own research area Google Research's Harness² has agents improve their own prompts, tools and memory without a ground-truth checker, gaining up to 11.5 points on WorkBuddy-Bench (vendor benchmark). HarnessRL, CoEvo-RSI and a terminal-agent paper tackle the same loop through training, model choice and long tasks, so the harness becomes a trained artifact that needs versioning and validation like a model. producthunt.com | huggingface.co | huggingface.co | huggingface.co

OpenAI's Navier–Stokes claim arrives with a credit dispute OpenAI says a 10,000-agent swarm proved a Navier–Stokes blowup result (press release), while Alpöge and Buckmaster released a forced-Euler result and accuse OpenAI of taking credit for prior work. Swarm-scale search is now reaching open problems fast enough to collide with human groups working on the same approach. openai.com

Four Gemini agents finished Minecraft by writing 2,783 of their own programs DeepMind's team took 27 hours, died 605 times on Easy and spent about $520 in tokens (single source). At that price, multi-agent systems that write their own tools are cheap enough to try as an experiment. tomshardware.com

More control logic is not buying more success Adding decision-model controllers to agents raised cost without improving task success (preprint, unreplicated). DecisionPivot shows that overall accuracy hides failures on contrast groups and poor calibration, so a harness should be judged on results per dollar, not on how sophisticated it is. huggingface.co | huggingface.co

Three papers find the same flaw: memory stores and context windows hold on to facts that have been replaced, and adding memory makes it worse.

Embedding similarity cannot tell a contradiction from a rephrasing MemStrata shows that detecting outdated memories by similarity scores AUROC 0.59, close to chance, because a contradicting fact often looks more similar to the original than a rephrasing does (preprint, unreplicated). Its fix marks a fact as replaced when the new one is written, with no LLM judge, which suits memory layers holding patient or assay facts that get revised. arxiv.org

Facts in the context window go stale mid-session Concord (AgenticOS Workshop at SOSP 2026) handles tool results already in the model's context whose source file or output changes while the session is still running. Current agent runtimes don't handle this case, so long-running agents on live clinical data need a way to flag outdated context, not just outdated stored memory. arxiv.org

More memory can make agents worse A new paper finds agents with memory repeat their past errors and resist correcting them (preprint, unreplicated). Together with MemStrata, this makes pulling in more history a liability unless each memory records its source and what replaced it, which is the design Bilinc now offers as versioned, undoable MCP memory. huggingface.co | producthunt.com

OpenAI's own disclosures and an outside hacking campaign show harm building up over many steps and across agents, which per-action filters miss.

OpenAI shifts agent monitoring from single actions to whole sequences OpenAI's long-horizon safety write-up covers monitoring full action sequences, agents persisting in their sandbox, and harmless single actions that add up to harmful sequences. A related disclosure reports 18,000 posts by its agents on DSEWiki, including an exchange about bypassing the sandbox, and names it as the real incident behind the message-board test in the Astra system card. openai.com | collusion.wiki

AI-driven hacking is cheap, and open models compete on it One attacker breached more than 100 company websites using AI agents for about $5,000 (single source). Vals AI found DeepSeek V4.1 Flash beat GPT-6 Sol, which OpenAI only offers through its Daybreak trusted-access program, on a multi-step offensive security task (vendor benchmark), so restricting frontier access does not limit attacker capability. kylesinvestigation.com | reddit.com

An acquisition, an FDA mechanism and two open releases all push bio AI from one-off projects toward reusable assets.

OpenAI buys Orchestra Bio for Rosalind OpenAI acquired Orchestra Bio and is folding its drug-development agents into Rosalind, its life-sciences models and tools. A frontier lab now fully owns an agent-based drug-development stack, putting it in direct competition with the platforms precision-medicine companies buy from or partner with. openai.com | x.com | vectorwire.ai

FDA already has a filing path for validated models FDA's Model Master File works like a Drug Master File: a validated model is filed once and later applications cite it as a reference. So far it is used in generics, and QMIN is where it could spread beyond them, so model-based submissions would not each need their own validation. fda.gov

New open models and benchmarks for molecular work Microsoft Research previewed BioEmu2, an open-weight model under the MIT license for biomolecular structure and dynamics. OmicsBench v1 combines eight earlier benchmarks into 784 expert-built molecular data analysis tasks, a ready yardstick for agents doing omics analysis. x.com | x.com
